Pastoral Care

Welcome to our Home

First and foremost, Avondale is a HOME and not an institution. This, undoubtedly, has a huge impact on how children conduct themselves around the setting. We pride ourselves on providing an incredibly nurturing environment where a child’s relationship with their teacher is key. The size of our classrooms and number of children in respective year groups ensures an intimate education experience, where children feel confident in voicing their ideas. We operate an open- door policy where communication between home and school is encouraged. Likewise, we share areas of strength and anything requiring remedial attention as things surface.

The Little Troopers Club

-designed especially for children of service personnel.

We understand that children with parents in the Armed Forces often face unique challenges, such as deployments, relocations, and changes in family dynamics. At Avondale we run The Little Troopers Club on a weekly basis. This club aims to bring our children of service personnel together, providing them with extra nurture and support in a safe and caring environment.

Not only does this club offer an opportunity for children to meet others who are navigating similar experiences, but it will also give them a sense of identity as “Little Troopers.” It is a space where they can build friendships, share their worries, and understand that they are not alone in what they are experiencing. The Little Troopers Club is free of charge and will create a supportive community, helping children connect and bond over shared experiences.

We are committed to ensuring that every service child feels supported and valued. This club is optional, runs during school hours and is open to pupils whenever they feel they need extra nurture and support.

Positive Mental Health

At Avondale Preparatory School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. We have a caring ethos, where each individual is valued.

At our school, we know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support.  We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.
