Avondale Tots (2 years)

We want our children to be happy, curious, confident independent learners to create a positive start to their school life.

In the first 3 years of life, children’s brains are far more active than those of university students. Here at Avondale Tots we focus on Early Learning.

We ensure a mix of carefully planned activities to support individuals and small groups alongside supporting children in selecting their own resources to develop learning. We want our children to be happy, curious, confident independent learners to create a positive start to their school life. Children are able to start Tots from 2 years of age and Little Avondale from their 3rd birthday.

Our Tots have two daily sesssions:

Session 1 – 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (including lunch)
Session 2 – 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm (including afternoon tea)

Avondale School Early Years ChildrenTots and Their Transition to Nursery

The Early Years Team work closely together to ensure continuous development through the EYFS Curriculum. We have a shared outside area which is used together for carefully planned learning opportunities to cover the new seven key areas of learning. We ensure a mix of carefully planned activities to support individuals and small groups, alongside supporting children in selecting their own resources to develop learning.

We want our children to be happy, curious, confident independent learners to create a positive start to their school life. Our Tots learning space welcomes children from two years of age and they progress to Little Avondale around three years of age, this is not a hard and fast rule; a number of factors are considered before transition is made. There is an expectation that children will be dry when they start Little Avondale, but nappy changing facilities are made available in our Tots area. We appreciate that from time to time ‘accidents’ happen and therefore it is more comforting for a child to have their own clothes ie, pants kept in their book bags. In the event of a child having a toileting accident they will be changed, reassured and soiled clothes placed in a bag to go home.

Settling in periods will vary from child to child. We will work together to ensure that your child feels safe and secure in their new environment.  As parents you will be asked to fill out a child profile indicating likes/ dislikes, routines and medical requirements to help us in this transition period. In addition to this, verbal feedback will be available daily to help ease any concerns. If you are a working parent phone calls are always an option at the end of the day. If we feel more sessions will be beneficial, we will work together to organise more time. All children have a home/ school contact diary which is kept in book bags for communication between home and school. Intended learning for that week is noted.
